Solve India’s Rape problem: Seeking A+ Full-stack Developer

What do you think of the recent case of rape in New Delhi’s bus? It’s absolutely appalling for us at grabHalo. What saddens us more is the knowledge that such incidents don’t have to happen. Technology already exists to help us in these kinds of situations. One of those solutions is our app.

In our daily lives, there are countless situations where we find ourselves uncertain of our surroundings and wondering if there is anyone around who could help us. It could be in a public place or even at a well-attended congregation. Ironically, despite being surrounded by many, it's not easy for us to raise our voice and ask for the help we need even when we are surrounded by many people for fear of the social stigma of standing out. This isolates each of us from others who could potentially help us if they only knew we needed help.

Enter grabHalo. The app allows its members to message and contact people by broadcasting your text message to people in any location of the member's choice. So if you need help in your area, you can blast a message to all the people around you and ask for help.

Of course, our members are free to use our app in any situation and there are many recreational purposes our app can serve. But we firmly believe our app offers the best solution for our members to ask for help if they find themselves in a difficult situation. They may use it to reach out for help depending on their particular situation, which is not too different from how we use our vocal chords on a day-to-day basis. It is very plausible to have situations where it is impossible for a victim or for a bystander to raise their voice and scream for help for fear of drawing attention to themselves, but are still capable of sending out a local SOS undetected to the perpetrators via a few clicks.

Looking for:

One outstanding developer to join. But the person we’re looking for is not average or normal by any stretch of the imagination. This person is unique, obsessive, inquisitive, bright, passionate, humble and above all a true humanitarian. Why is this important? Because we’re building something that needs to get lots of data transferred to our client devices even in bandwidth constrained situations. People’s lives are at stake.

You’ll work on all parts of the stack, client as well as server. So we want developers that are all-rounders and can pick up any language within a very short amount of time.

   
Qualifications that we seek:  

• Incredibly bright (IIT or equivalent level of logical reasoning/mathematical intelligence). Note: you don't have to have gone to IIT at all. Just know your smarts will be tested

• Have experience with mobile app development and familiarity with MVC model 
• Experience programming on the front and backend 
• Languages that would be useful to know: Obj-C, Python, Java, Node.js, PHP, Javascript, JQuery, and experience with Postgres/mongoDB/(MySQL is acceptable)
• Minimum two years of programming experience either professionally or as a personal passion
• Have projects you can show us
• Put "Halo" in the subject line of the email
• Include cover letter explaining why you are interested in working with us
